Working with our stakeholders to shape a sustainable future

We work towards being able to support and promote development in our communities as well as to help shape a more sustainable energy future through global environmental initiatives.

Sharing a common identity

Our role as a major contributor to the development of the wider community is united with our need to promote national integration by recognising and celebrating national diversity.

Building capacity

We have invested in various programmes and projects throughout Trinidad and Tobago that aim to nurture several aspects of societal advancement and environmental preservation.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives have always taken a holistic approach; encompassing our entire complement of stakeholders.

Promoting good citizenship

As stated in our CSR Policy, our main objective is to contribute towards the sustainable economic and social development of ouremployees, their families, fenceline communities and the wider society.

Our CSR initiatives focus on the following core areas:

Education and Training

Our Horizon Graduate Trainee Programme is a 2-year programme promoting the development of University graduates.

Our recently reintroduced Craft Apprenticeship Programme provides a holistic framework, creating synergy between the demand of and supply for competent labour.

Our Refinery Operator Apprenticeship Programme provides an avenue for the development of skills within our national community.

Our support for Global Young Leaders gives Trinidad and Tobago’s youth the opportunity to attend the Global Young Leader’s Conference (GYLC) which brings together outstanding young people from several parts of the world.

Petrotrin’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Project took top honours winning the award for Best Environmental Project at the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago Annual Corporate Social Responsibility Awards 2014.

The project, entered into the competition in December 2013, entails the recovery and utilization of methane rich natural gas currently vented from 562 wells located in five onshore fields. It targets an overall reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 80,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per annum in the first 10 years of operation.

The Petrotrin Programme of Activity (PoA) was successfully registered by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in August 2013 and the Certified Emission Reduction (CER) credits generated are recognized by the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), the world’s largest emissions trading programme.

Community Involvement

Petrotrin maintains a close relationship with its fenceline communities, many of which have sprung up alongside its installations throughout south Trinidad. Our CSR initiatives very often support the development of these communities.

Response programmes have focused on sponsorship and donation activities as well as the provision of employment opportunities for members of these communities.
