Petrotrin and Samsung Sign Joint
Venture Contract
In a brief signing ceremony held at the Board Room
of Petrotrin’s Administration Building, Pointe-a-Pierre on April 15, Petrotrin
signed a contract with Samsung Engineering for Engineering, Procurement,
Construction, Commissioning and Start-up (EPC) Services for the Ultra Low
Sulphur Diesel (ULSD) Plant at the Pointe-a-Pierre Refinery.
Petrotrin’s team was led by President Kenneth Allum
and comprised members of the Legal, Project Engineering and Planning and
Business Development Departments, while Samsung was represented by a
seven-member team.
Petrotrin is cautiously optimistic that the Plant
would be ready for commissioning by the end of 2011 or early 2012.
The ULSD Plant is designed to process 40,000 barrels
per stream day (BPSD) of diesel boiling range feeding stocks to produce a diesel
product with a total sulphur of 8 ppm max, a total aromatics content of less
than 25% wt and a cetane number of 51 min consistent with the most stringent and
forecasted future on road fuel specifications.
This is part of the Clean Fuels Programme, which is
intended to secure Petrotrin’s position as the premier supplier of high quality
gasoline and diesel in the region. The programme consists of two major elements:
the GOP, which targets improved gasoline quality and volumes; and the ULSD plant
which targets improved quality of diesel.
By completing the GOP and constructing the ULSD
Plant, Petrotrin will increase its gasoline quality and quantity, meet new local
and international specifications for our diesel, improve its operations and
increase customer satisfaction.
