Pointe-a-Pierre Refinery

The Administration Building, Pointe-a-Pierre

PETROTRIN Pointe-a-Pierre Refinery - the only refinery in the world to co-exist with a wildlife park, throughput upward of 175,000 bpd, newly upgraded to produce larger volumes in a wider range of high-value petroleum products - is arguably the best customer-responsive refinery among territories bordering the Caribbean Sea.

The refinery is located on the west coast of Trinidad on 2,000 acres of land, approximately 35 miles south of the capital, Port of Spain.

The refinery has the capacity to process a wide variety of crude oil with varying gravity and sulphur specifications, which gives PETROTRIN the ability to purchase crude oil from a range of suppliers. It is a cracking refinery with moderate conversion capacity and its processes include atmospheric and vacuum crude distillation, visbreaking, naphtha catalytic reforming, catalytic cracking, hydrotreating, alkylation and MTBE synthesis. Over the last three fiscal years, the Pointe-a-Pierre refinery has converted between 57.5% and 64.2% of its feedstock into higher value distillate products with fuel oil being the other main product.

The Pointe-a-Pierre Refinery

The combination of strategic location and very competitive fees makes Pointe-a-Pierre the region's first choice for third party crude processing. This is but one of many business opportunities PETROTRIN holds out to petroleum entrepreneurs on its industrial estate

The Refining and Marketing Division, led by Vice President Refining and Marketing Mr. Louie Forde, is responsible for the operation of our Refinery, the purchase of crude oil used in the refining process, the storage and handling of crude oil and refined products, and the marketing and sale of refined petroleum products.

The Pointe-a-Pierre Refinery

Pointe-a-Pierre's process flexibility is further complemented by its large efficient ports - at Pointe-a-Pierre and Point Fortin - accommodating vessel sizes from grade carriers to mainland riverine craft.
The Port of Pointe-a-Pierre, sheltered in the Gulf of Paria midway along major north-south Atlantic sea-lanes, is the natural provider of bunkering services for all ocean-going craft.

The Point Fortin facilities deliver the region's best strategically located terminalling services.
