Hospitalisation
(Augustus Long
Hospital)
Hospitalization is
provided at the
Augustus Long
Hospital for
employees and their
dependants when
necessary and for
retirees and their
dependents for
surgery in
accordance with the
rules of the
company’s Medical
Plan.
Hospitalization is
also provided for
third parties on
prior approval of
the Chief Medical
Officer or his
designate, at a fee
for service basis.
Third parties
comprise the
following:

Persons
covered by
contracts
with
non-Petrotrin
companies |
 |
Temporary
workers and
their
immediate
dependents
e.g. spouse,
child |
 |
Retirees and
their
immediate
dependents,
e.g. spouse,
child, for
non-surgical
short stay |
 |
The extended
families of
employees
e.g.
mother-in-law,
father-in-law,
brothers,
sisters,
children
over age
limit of
eligibility,
etc |
The
attending physician
depending on the
nature of the
patient’s condition
may request
consultant
specialists. The
specialist gives
his/her opinion or
advice but the
responsibility for
management is that
of the attending
physician. The
doctor on call
handles admissions
outside of normal
working hours.

Hospitalisation
outside of ALH
(Local)
With
the prior approval
of the Chief Medical
Officer or his
designate, the
Company will cover
the full cost of
hospitalization of a
member at a
non-Company facility
in Trinidad.

Emergency
Attention (In House)
In the event of an
emergency contact
should be made with
the nearest
Petrotrin Doctor,
Nurse and/or Field
Superintendent.
Following or even
failing this, one
may come directly to
the Augustus Long
Hospital.

Overseas
Medicals
The
Chief Medical
Officer or his
designate will
determine cases,
which require
attention not
available in
Trinidad and Tobago
and with his prior
written approval, a
worker may be
referred for
specialist
investigations and
treatment abroad.
The guiding factor
is that such
investigation and
treatment are not
available locally
and that there is
reasonable chance of
benefit to the
patient. Only
conventional western
medicine is covered
by the Plan.

Surgery at
Augustus Long
Hospital
Routine booked cases
are operated on
Tuesdays,
Wednesdays,
Thursdays and
Fridays. This is
subject to change as
the need arises.
Emergency surgery is
available
twenty-four hours
every day.

Part-Time
Medical Officers
Part-time Medical
Officers are engaged
by the Company
mainly for attending
to out-patients
clinic at
Pointe-a-Pierre and
in the producing
fields, some of
these doctors also
do after hours call
duty.

Medical Officers
Full-time Medical
Officers are engaged
by the Company to
provide preventive,
curative, and health
promotion services
to all plan members.
The Company can call
upon doctors, like
all other senior
members of staff to
render their
services at any
time. |
