Retirees
The
Company provides
Medical Services to
its retirees in
accordance with the
provisions of the
Retirees’ Medical
Assistance Plan.
Retirees in the
North Trinidad and
Tobago may seek
attendance by panel
doctors in these
locations. The
following outlines
what benefits are
covered by the
Retirees’ Medical
Assistance Plan.

Occupational
Health Clinic
Occupational health
services will be
provided for
screening of at risk
workers in the
following areas:
vision testing, lung
function testing,
hearing testing
(Audiometry). In
addition, the
routine screening of
workers will
continue: lead
workers, radiation
workers, solvent
workers, transport
drivers, confined
space entry
clearance, post
injury or serious
illness clearance,
gassing accidents,
assessments for
permanent partial
disability (PPD) and
permanent total
disability (), job
transfer and
reclassification on
medical grounds,
pre-employment
medicals, periodic
medicals,
occupational
medicals. The Chief
Medical Officer is
specifically
responsible for
overseeing the
occupational health
clinic.

Environment
Department
The
Medical Department
works closely with
the Health, Safety
and Environment
Department on any
aspect of
occupational safety
and health. Safety
committees in the
Medical Department
liaise with the
Health, Safety and
Environment
Department and/or
the Joint Health and
Safety Plant
committee to ensure
efficiency in
service.

Health,
Promotion & Wellness
Since
many of the diseases
afflicting plan
members can be
reduced or brought
under better control
by behaviour and
lifestyles changes,
the Medical
Department has a
Wellness secretariat
whose function is to
plan, develop,
implement, execute,
monitor and evaluate
Wellness Programmes
for the benefit of
all employees. These
include programmes
such as: - diet and
exercise, smoking
cessation, weight
control and stress
management
programmes. They
also conduct
screening and
testing for
employees e.g. Blood
Sugar, Blood
Cholesterol and
Blood Pressure
testing; Body Fat
Composition
Analysis; Fitness
Assessments; Cardiac
Risk Analysis; Lung
Efficiency Testing;
Hearing Testing and
conduct audiovisual
demonstrations and
lectures on
health-related
topics at worksites.
Support activities
are also planned to
encourage employees
on their journey to
making lifestyle
changes e.g.
aerobathons, hikes,
health fairs,
seminars, dancing
etc.
It is the
responsibility of
the Chief Pharmacist
to order, issue and
control all drugs in
the Pharmacy
Department. The
Supervisor and other
operatives simply
assist the Chief
Pharmacist in this
regard.

inventory are now
done online using
the SAP System.

Services to
Non-Petrotrin
Employees
Medical Department
provides varying
degrees of service
to non-Company
employees:
a. Contractors’
workmen
Contractors’ workmen
who are injured
while working on the
Company’s fields of
operation are
normally attended to
before being sent on
to an outside
facility depending
on the nature of the
injury.
b.
Employees/Dependents
of designated
companies
The Company has
contracted with
certain companies to
provide
hospitalization
facilities and/or
out patient
services. Guidelines
for admission to
Augustus Long
Hospital and a
schedule of fees
have been
established for such
services.
c. Employees’
Relatives
The Company has
decided to extend
its hospitalization
facilities as well
as Radiology and
Laboratory Services
to employees’
relatives who are
not covered by the
Medical Plan in
accordance with the
schedule of fees.

Re-imbursement
to Patients
Plan
members are
reimbursed for
charges/expenses
incurred for
approved medical
attention and
prescription
obtained at
non-Company
facilities in
accordance with the
guidelines of the
Medical Plan.
Plan members may be
reimbursed either
one hundred percent
(100%) or sixty
percent (60%)
depending on the
circumstances.
If a patient has
been referred by a
Company doctor
(Panel) to a
specialist and for
whatever reason was
required to pay the
specialist’s fee,
the patient/plan
member will be
reimbursed one
hundred percent
(100%).
If a Panel doctor
prescribes
medication for plan
member, and that
member purchases the
prescribed
medication on
his/her own without
reference to the
department,
reimbursement will
be in the sum of
sixty percent (60%).
Likewise if
Radiology or
Laboratory tests are
recommended for a
plan member by a
panel doctor, and
those tests are done
at a non-Company
facility,
reimbursement will
be at sixty (60%),
if done without
prior approval of
the CMO or a Medical
Superintendent.
In instances when
definite permission
is given to a member
to purchase
medication at an
outside facility or
to receive attention
at an outside
facility,
reimbursement will
be at one hundred
percent (100%).

Chief Medical
Officer is the
Honorary Port Health
Officer and
Quarantine Officer
for the Port of
Pointe-a-Pierre. He
holds an authorized
Government stamp for
quarantine vaccines.

with Government
Health Services
The
Medical Department
is committed to
co-operating with
the Ministry of
Health particularly
as this relates to
Public Health and
Occupational Health.
We are a sentinel
station for the
collection of
epidemiological data
in certain
infectious diseases
and Occupational
Diseases.

Training
The
Medical Department
trains all cadres of
its workers both for
their personal
growth and
development and to
ensure the highest
standards of medical
care to all users of
its services. The
Medical department
will also assist in
training of
personnel of other
departments in areas
of its competencies.
To assist in
developing a
comprehensive
training plan Gap
Analyses are
conducted which help
evaluate the needs
of staff in relation
to their job
functions.
Members of the
department are also
encouraged to
identify courses,
which they think
will be useful and
relevant to their
duties.
All requests for
courses will be
evaluated in light
of the Department’s
needs.
