Dr. Victor Coombs joined the Company as
a medical officer in 1980. During the
nine years that ensued, Dr. Coombs moved
through the ranks to hold senior
positions in the Medical Department and
served as chairman of a number of
committees including a technical
advisory committee for occupational
Health and Safety.
Dr. Coombs, who supports continuous
education, graduated from the University
of Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Arts
(BA) Degree majoring in chemistry and
with a minor in behavioral sciences. He
holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor
of Surgery (MBBS) Degree from the
University of the West Indies, Mona,
Jamaica; a Master of Sciences (MSc)
Degree (distinction) in Community Health
in Developing Countries from the London
School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
of the University of London; a Diploma
in Public Health (DPH) from the Royal
Institute of Public Health and Hygiene,
London; Diploma in Industrial Health (DIH)
from the Royal College of Physicians; he
is an Associate of the Faculty of
Occupational Medicine of the Royal
College of Physicians; he has a
certificate in Aviation Medicine from
the Royal College of Physicians/Royal
Air Force; an Executive Master’s Degree
in Business Administration (EMBA) from
the University of the West Indies,
Institute of Business and a Master of
Sciences (MSc) degree in Emergency
Medicine from the University of the West
Indies, Faculty of Medical Sciences.
Dr. Coombs is a member of the Board of
Directors at NWRHA, the Board of the
Employers’ Consultative Association, the
Council of the Medical Board of Trinidad
& Tobago, member of the American College
of Occupational and Environmental
Medicine and the Past President Safety
Council of Trinidad & Tobago and. He is
also the Medical Referee for the
Government of the Republic of Trinidad &
Tobago Workmen’s Compensation Act.
As Petrotrin’s Chief Medical Officer Dr.
Coombs is required to manage Petrotrin’s
60-bed hospital, Augustus Long Hospital,
eight (8) Medical Centres and a staff of
220 workers including 24 doctors. He is
also required to provide internal
advisory and consultancy services in
Occupational and Environmental Health to
the Company’s management, the HSE
Department and to the Line.
