UTT’s
Chancellor, Professor George Maxwell Richards conferred the Degree on
Mr. Jones who was among three persons honoured by UTT. The others were
Rampersad Motilal, Doctor of Science and Novelist Ralph de Boissiere,
Doctor of Letters.
This event was preceded by a Chancellor’s Dinner on November 14th
where the President of the Republic, His Excellency Professor George
Maxwell Richards, T.C. gave Mr. Jones full recognition, in the presence
of a very distinguished gathering.
An
Independent Panel had submitted a recommendation to UTT based on the

life’s
work of Mr. Jones who has made an unparalleled contribution over 40
years to the development of heavy industry in Trinidad and Tobago.
UTT President and Chairman Professor Kenneth Julien in a correspondence
to Mr. Jones remarked: “Dear Mr. Jones, I am pleased to advise you that
the Board of Governors of the University of Trinidad and Tobago has
accepted, with great enthusiasm, a recommendation from an Independent
Panel that you be offered an award, Honorary Doctorate, Engineering and
Entrepreneurship.”
The Executive Chairman has already received several accolades over the
years for his contribution to industry. He has over 40 years experience
in Trinidad and Tobago’s energy business. |
